Employment Information

Hours: Mostly flexible/async, with a 2–3 hour overlap window 7–10 PM EAT on weekdays

Job Summary:

  • A US-based organization whose mission is to help clients thrive through quality healthcare and housing seeks an experienced proposal writer to support its grant-seeking program. Working with a senior US-based grant writer, you will research US funding opportunities and produce high-quality first drafts of proposals and related fundraising documents. Proposal experience from Kenya's NGO and donor sector (USAID, UN agencies, international foundations) is exactly the background we are looking for.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct prospect research on US foundation, corporate, and government funding opportunities
  • Draft letters of inquiry, grant proposals, budget narratives, and supporting documents in US English for US funders
  • Maintain the proposal library, funder records, and submissions calendar
  • Use AI writing tools (Claude, ChatGPT) within our editorial workflow, with rigorous fact-checking

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree and a minimum of 2 years writing funded proposals — donor-sector experience (USAID, UN, DFID/FCDO, foundations) strongly preferred; name the funders you've written for in your application
  • Exceptional written English with the ability to write in US style for US audiences (not British/donor-report conventions)
  • Strong research skills and reliable deadline delivery
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted writing tools an advantage
