About this role
Job Purpose
- To fabricate, repair, and maintain metal structures, vehicle bodies, equipment, and components using appropriate welding techniques while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform welding using MIG, TIG, Arc (SMAW), and gas welding techniques as required.
- Fabricate, assemble, and repair metal structures, equipment, trailers, vehicle bodies, containers, and machinery.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and fabrication specifications.
- Cut, shape, grind, and prepare metal components for welding.
- Repair damaged chassis, frames, gates, platforms, tanks, and other steel structures.
- Inspect welded joints to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.
- Operate welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication equipment safely.
- Carry out preventive maintenance and minor repairs on welding equipment.
- Ensure proper use and storage of welding gases, electrodes, and consumables.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with health and safety regulations.
- Report equipment defects and material shortages to the supervisor.
- Support emergency repair work and field assignments when required.
- Maintain records of completed fabrication and repair work
Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Welding and Fabrication, or a related technical field.
- Valid trade certification in welding is an added advantage.
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct
Key Skills
- Knowledge of different metals and appropriate welding techniques.
- Skilled in cutting, grinding, drilling, and metal fabrication.
- Familiarity with welding safety standards and PPE requirements.
- Good measuring and layout skills.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Welder in a workshop, or fleet maintenance environment.
- Experience in heavy fabrication, vehicle body repairs, or industrial equipment maintenance is an added advantage.
